This weekend saw the culmination of an event that was truly close to my heart. When we first jumped into being business owners in Terre Haute, Kathy and I definitely had our doubts. To say we didn't would just be an outright lie. For me though, the biggest doubts centered around my ability as a designer much more than the success or failure of the business.
Anyone who knows me is well aware of my obsession with weddings, fashion, and the bridal industry in general. My husband gives me the "look" every time I flip to a bridal show or he finds me re-watching old Project Runway episodes.
That be said, delivering my first custom designed gown after six months of research and labor has to be one of the top ten moments of my life.
The wedding was held at Hawthorne Park in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Labrinth was a beautiful venue, irregardless of the ungodly temperatures. The illustration of the wedding dress was finalized in February, so it was just a matter of finding the right lace to create the look for our Bride.
The bride looked fantastic in purple and black against a forest background. It was a huge honor to have the opportunity to design a gown for this original couple, but to have the opportunity to work on their wedding cake was a lot of fun as well. It isn't often that I get to do something as out of the box as Skulls and a Tattoo on a wedding cake. The hand-painted design on this fondant cake was the best part of the whole thing. Even better than making gum paste roses I might add.
Thankfully, we were able to deliver the enormous thing in one piece on one of the hottest days of the year. I can't wait to see professional photos from this event. And yes, I think we did ok!
