We are officially one year into our adventure as business owners. One of the first questions that is always posed when someone finds out I own my own business is what made you do it? To be honest there were a myriad of reasons that we jumped off the proverbial cliff, but I have to say weddings like the one pictured have to be it.
Jade and Jerry were amazing customers to work with. Their creativity and desire for a wedding with a twist embodied why Kathy and I got into this mess in the first place. I was tired of white wedding gowns. Do not misunderstand me. I love a beautiful, classic, white wedding gown as much as the next person. Once in a while though, it is so much fun to work on something outside of the box.
I spent the early part of my professional career working on the same gowns over and over. Smiling through gritted teeth at these wonderful individuals who were wearing a gown I had seen on literally hundred of other brides became a tad bit disheartening. Every bride I have ever worked with has a huge personality, so why shouldn't the gown, cake, wedding mirror that same personality. Most women have visualized their wedding day a million different times, so why should their one in a million day look like everyone else's? It has always been a source of frustration for me as a professional.
Stepping out of our own comfort box, has allowed Kathy and I to meet some amazing individuals over the past year. I look forward to walking into the shop everyday knowing that it is worth it. The personal and professional freedom has afforded us the opportunity to put a new face on weddings in Terre Haute.
With that said, I salute brides like Jade who are more than willing to step outside the box and have a unique wedding that suits the couples personality. Let's make creativity the new trend in Terre Haute weddings together in the years to come!
